Full description

Sainfoin is a most attractive plant with racemes of pink flowers in the summer. Within the UK it is mostly found in southern and central England.

It prefers neutral to alkali soils that are dry and is generally found on calcareous and chalk grasslands, although it can also grow on sandy or stony soils.  It performs best with an autumn cut.

Sainfoin is an important pollen and nectar source for bees and also some butterflies.
