What to plant now?
Time to plant bare-root hedging plants to give the birds a place to roost...
Last chance for this season to plant hedgerows which are a vital habitat to so many different forms of wildlife - they provide essential shelter and food for birds, insects and mammals.
Consider planting even a short length of hedge as it will be of great benefit to wildlife and will also be a pleasure to look at. A mixed hedge is probably best of all, but a single species one of beech or hornbeam for example will be great too because they keep their leaves throughout the winter, only dropping them as the new ones appear in the spring.
For other species, go the Hedging Plants & Shrubs department.
